Kacena Real Estate Management (K-REM) LLC was founded in 1993 by David Kacena. K-REM, licensed in real estate as required by the State of Iowa, manages residential rental property, including multi-family apartments and duplexes, single-family homes, and condo and homeowners’ associations throughout Johnson County.
K-REM provides a full range of property management services tailored to property owners’ needs and wants. The staff succeeds in creating positive experiences for residents by conducting careful background checks on all applicants to promote a safe living environment, and by responding promptly to residents’ questions, concerns, and repair requests. These efforts result in high renewal rates and a significant number of longtime renters. David Kacena and his staff also take tremendous pride in maintaining the physical appearance of the property they manage.
David Kacena
David Kacena is a licensed real estate broker and the owner of Kacena Real Estate Management, LLC. He is a member of the Iowa Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors. David just finished his sixth year as president of the Greater Iowa City Apartment Association’s Board of Directors. After ten years of being president, David has stepped down but still remains on the Board of Directors, devoting more time to the State Land Lords of Iowa. David has served on the State Board of Landlords of Iowa since 2005.
A lifelong resident of the Iowa City area, David has deep roots in the rental industry. His parents have owned rental property since 1959 – and as a youngster, he earned his first paychecks cutting grass at their properties. He worked as an on-site property manager for five years in the mid-1970s, earned his real estate license in 1988, and went on to receive his broker’s license and establish K-REM.
David meets with property owners interested in renting out units, views property, and develops contracts. He supervises the upkeep of rental properties, ensuring that repairs are completed and that residents take proper care of rental units. He also oversees showings and lease-end inspections.
In his free time, David enjoys the outdoors – specifically camping, canoeing, and fishing in the Boundary Waters.
Mary Allred
Mary Allred is a licensed realtor and the office manager of Kacena Real Estate Management. She is a member of the Iowa Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors.
Mary began her career in property management in 1995 and has been a member of the K-REM team for ten years. She oversees lease signings, works closely with tenants, owners, and associations, and manages the company’s finances.
Outside of work, Mary enjoys gardening and spending time with her husband and two children.
Julie Robinson
Julie Robinson is the receptionist at Kacena Real Estate Management. She joined the staff in November 2008, and her duties include answering the phone, preparing statements for property owners, paying bills, banking, preparing leases, assisting tenants and booking showings. Julie has five years of experience in property management.
Outside of work, Julie enjoys spending time with her husband and two children.
Marcia Whitehall
Marcia Whitehall is a leasing agent at Kacena Real Estate Management. Her duties include showing and facilitating inspections of rental properties. Marcia is a licensed real estate broker associate and a notary for the State of Iowa.
She is a member of the Iowa Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors.
She worked for nearly a dozen years at a local property-management firm. Her experience also includes working as a home care assistant to help the elderly maintain independence, and two years as a resident relations specialist at Ecumenical Towers, an Iowa City apartment complex for senior citizens and mobility-impaired individuals. There, she handled HUD certifications, planned events, and assisted with maintenance.
In her free time, Marcia enjoys gardening, drawing, writing, making candles, jewelry and soaps, and outdoor activities.
Warren McDuffie
Warren McDuffie is a licensed real estate agent and a showing agent at Kacena Real Estate management.
Warren is a native of Iowa city and former UI football player. He is very knowledgeable of the area and spent time on the Iowa city board of realtors as a equal rights and fair housing ambassador. When not at work Warren spends time with his wife and twins.
